New Jersey and California are the only two states so far to legalize exchange wagering in the United States. Created 15 years ago in Europe, exchange wagering allows gamblers to place a bet not only prior to a race, but during as well. Porzio Governmental Affairs Vice President Barbara DeMarco played a key role in the passage of New Jersey's exchange wagering bill in 2010.
Ms. DeMarco was quoted on the potential expansion of horse betting to new demographics in the Gambling Compliance article, "Exchange Wagering Set To Begin In New Jersey," by Tony Batt.
"It’s a revenue source that will hopefully come from a new demographic who would find this type of wagering on horses exciting because it provides instant gratification and because it’s in-play wagering.”
