Porzio Governmental Affairs (PGA) seeks a Government Affairs Associate to provide strategic support in our Trenton, NJ office.  The Government Affairs Associate will support PGA’s lobbying and other governmental affairs efforts including developing, implementing and monitoring special projects, strategic business initiatives, research, reporting and logistics.  The ideal candidate will have excellent organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills.  The Government Affairs Associate will report to the Executive Vice President and work with the entire PGA team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Governmental Affairs
  • Attend and monitor legislative committees and meetings of executive branch entities;
  • Draft documents related to these activities including testimony, bill summaries and analysis; 
  • Provide proactive stakeholder identification; 
  • Attend client meetings with directors and vice presidents.  
  1. Team Management
  • Provide scheduling support for legislative committee and session days, draft agendas for team meetings, assist with ELEC reporting;
  • Provide support in development of pitches and proposals for potential new clients;
  • Coordinate PGA staff and client attendance at political functions and fundraisers.
  1. Public Relations/Grassroots Advocacy/Campaign Coordination
  • Assist with coordination of the components of a successful mission-based campaign including member outreach, subject matter education and positive messaging;
  • Assist with coordination of client events such as fundraisers, special legislative days or others to promote visibility;  
  • Assist with traditional media services to clients including letters to the editor, op-eds, editorial board meetings, press conferences, and contribute to PGA and client social media services as needed.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Proactively take on new tasks and create new opportunities for current and potential clients to support the Porzio family of companies; 
  • Review periodicals, texts and other literature related to the areas of expertise;
  • Performance of other work-related duties as assigned, including attendance at events outside of regular business hours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A./B.S. in Law, Security Studies, Political Science or related field
  • Keen understanding of NJ Statehouse; 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills; 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Superior analytical skills;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities under time pressures;
  • Ability to perform independently and in a team environment.
